Do I need software?. The answer is everyone needs software. Software is the workhorse of the computer. The next question should be: What do I need the software for? So to make that answer easier RISE have broken down software into categories of use.

Operating Systems

This section deals with everything you wanted to know about the software that drives your computer. If you want to buy the right RISE computer for you, knowing a little about software, will help and could save you money.

The number one software of a RISE Computer indeed any computer is the operating system (OS). It is worth noting that the operating system controls your computer. It co-ordinates three items, software, hardware and you. Operating systems can be powerful, but not always friendly, the friendly systems tend to be easy to use and learn. One major factor behind choosing an operating system is the amount of software available. RISE provide different options for choosing your operating system.

Mac OS - The Macintosh Operating System, or Mac OS is synonymous with the Macintosh hardware. You buy a mac you get an operating system. You can not buy the Mac OS seperately for a PC.

Linux - Linux is a free operating system. It will run on any hardware platform, and well suited to a PC. Linux OS's normally come with additional features. Ubuntu's Hardy Heron is part of the Ubuntu families of OS's to choose from. RISE offer this type of OS as an alternative to Windows. Open Source Software

So no worries about finding the right software for your computer. If you choose to customise your RISE Computer all software will be pre installed. So when you get your new RISE computer is all ready to be used. You can even request stable open source software available through the Open Source initiative.

Anti Virus and Other Utility Programs

This type of program is different from an application like a word processor. Instead this program works on the computer itself. The most common is the Anti Virus. There are other program tools that are useful for protecting you and your PC, such as anti spyware to stop malicious software. RISE Computers have as standard a free version of these utilities on all our computers.

Work Software

This is the software that does all the day to day work such as word processing, calculations via spreadsheets, databases for storing information, desktop publishing for that event poster, graphics for manipulating images, accounting packages and so on.... Free Software

At RISE we provide a lot of software for your computer at no cost, and not just a three month trial. If you purchase a RISE Computer you can choose what software you would like and we will make sure that software is on your computer and running perfectly.

Internet - E-mail and Surfing The Web

The easy element about finding this software, is that RISE Computers gives you all you need to surf the web for free, including e-mail. You have two choices, the microsoft standard that comes free with their operating system. Or free alternatives that you can choose from at the RISE Catalogue. Gaming and Education

Even though it may seem odd to put these categories together a lot of games are very good when it comes to providing information and letting the user gain knowledge. RISE does not provide this type of software, as it is very much geared by individual taste. However, RISE will provide the best hardware platform via our Gaming PC.
