The number one software of a RISE Computer indeed any computer is the operating system (OS). It is worth noting that the operating system controls your computer. It co-ordinates three items, software, hardware and you. Operating systems can be powerful, but not always friendly, the friendly systems tend to be easy to use and learn. One major factor behind choosing an operating system is the amount of software available. RISE provide different options for choosing your operating system.

Mac OS - The Macintosh Operating System, or Mac OS is synonymous with the Macintosh hardware. You buy a mac you get an operating system. You can not buy the Mac OS seperately for a PC.
Linux - Linux is a free operating system. It will run on any hardware platform, and well suited to a PC. Linux OS's normally come with additional features. Ubuntu's Hardy Heron is part of the Ubuntu families of OS's to choose from. RISE offer this type of OS as an alternative to Windows.
